When I return from a vacation and
am faced with a week’s worth of mail, I:
Pretend it doesn’t exist and add it to
the pile on the kitchen counter.
Take a quick peek to see if there are
any cheques or coupons. I’ll eventually
get through the rest.
Take a day to unpack and settle in
before sorting through the entire lot.
Begin sorting the mail before my bags
are unpacked, quickly toss the junk mail
in the bin, and set aside important items
such as bills.
My kids are now 5 and 7. After
coming across their baby clothes, crib,
and other toddler items in storage, I:
Hang onto them in case I ever decide
to have a garage sale.
Decide that everything stays because
my kids might want to use these things
for their own children.
Realize that others could be using
these things and donate them to a local
charity or to a friend,
Chastise myself for taking up the
precious storage space and quickly list
them on an online auction or sell them
off to a second-hand store.
